According to Auto Express, Honda is brewing up a smaller CUV than the CR-V, which is the company’s smallest SUV offering in the US. Honda hopes to emulate the success of the Nissan Qashqai, and hopes to boost its profitability in Europe (especially in the UK) with the new Honda compact crossover.
When the CR-V first debuted, it was “a dinky spare-tired runabout based on the then-equally-tiny Civic, it not only was small, but it looked small too. But as the Civic has expanded, so has its stablemate: the new CR-V is larger (just slightly) and more mature, but it also looks the part. Hence, the need for Honda to introduce a small SUV underneath to fit between the Civic and the CR-V itself,” says Automotive.
The small SUV to slot between the Civic and the CR-V will enter production next year, at the earliest. The new compact SUV will be a direct rival to the Nissan Rogue and the Nissan Qashqai. The illustrations are Auto Express’s take on what the new Honda compact SUV is likely to look like.
